No more cling wrap!

Today’s green decision is that I am no longer going to buy any cling wrap. When the roll we have current runs out (which, as you can see from the pic, is going to be fairly soon), that’s it. No more.

The reasoning for this as follows: as far as I am aware plastic cling wrap is not recyclable which makes me feel guilty whenever I have to throw it away. And usually it gets tossed after just one use too. Just seems a total waste. There are many other ways to store leftovers or cover things and from now on, I just need to find a way to do it differently.

Update 31 July 2010: I sent some enquiries around to the plastic reyclers & assocations around to confirm that cling wrap is indeed un-recyclable and it turns out that I was wrong! I got a prompt response from Dianne at the Plastics Federation of SA who told me that cling wrap is in fact made from LDPE (No. 4 – low density and linear low density polyethylene). So, you’re welcome to continue using it, so long as your recycling depot accepts No 4 plastics.
I, on the other hand, am still going to avoid it. Still want to try avoid creating excess waste.
